Dr. Michael Nian Peng Shi, L.Ac., Ph.D. is a California licensed acupuncturist. He was born in Taiwan. He attended UC Berkeley and graduated with a bachelors degree in chemical engineering. After doing research for one year, he enrolled in the American College of Traditional Chines Medicine (ACTCM) in San Francisco, graduating in 1990 with the degree of Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Concurrent to his attending ACTCM, Dr. Shi also apprenticed with renown Bay Area TCM practitioner Dr. Lam Kong. Starting in 1991 Dr. Shi has been in practice in both the East Bay and subsequently San Joaquin County. After eleven years of practice Dr. Shi further spent two years of study acquiring a Ph.D. in Oriental Medical Research from the American Liberty University (his dissertation was on treatment for hard to treat women’s diseases) in 2002.
Dr. Shi is caring and thoughtful and is dedicated to treating and educating patients, enabling each patient to not only recover from their illness, but also to understand and be able to actively prevent future onset of chronic illnesses.
He has treated with great success, chronic and stubborn cases of migraines, allergic and non-allergic types of skin rash and eczema, musculo-skeletal pain due to injuries and wear and tear, such as low back pain due to herniated, bulging disc, chronic neck and shoulder pain, knee pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, low immune conditions such as frequent colds and flus, chronic fatigue syndrome, food allergies, skin allergies, fibromyalgia, chronic cystitis, etc., chronic metabolic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart irregularities such as palpitations and angina, chronic insomnia, severe gastric and intestinal conditions such as gastric ulcers, gastritis, indigestion, enteritis, and colitis, menopausal syndromes with symptoms like hot flashes, irritability, etc., liver diseases such as fatty liver, management of hepatitis, chronic constipation, post stroke syndromes such as recovery o motor functions and mental functions, chronic memory loss due to either other chronic illness or concussions, infertility, Meniere’s disease, loss of hearing, chronic degenerative eye diseases, thyroid conditions, muscle weakness and atrophy conditions.
